Pad a Girl Today

The Erelu Funmi Ayoola Foundation, a non-profit organization, has made a significant impact through its initiative “Pad a Girl Today.” This program has distributed thousands of sanitary pads to young girls in selected secondary schools across Osun State, addressing key challenges related to menstrual hygiene and education.

Why the Initiative?

In a statement issued by the founder, Erelu Funmi Ayoola, the initiative was created to support parents, prevent infections, and tackle the high cost of menstrual products. Ayoola highlighted the dangers of unsafe improvisations often used by young girls due to the rising costs of conventional pads.

"A lot of young, decent girls have infections traced to improvised sanitary pads. As a group, we thought of how we can assist in our little way, and that’s what we are doing," she said.

Addressing Challenges in Rural Communities

The initiative focuses on helping young girls in rural areas who face difficulties accessing proper menstrual hygiene products. It aims to ensure they stay healthy and confident during their school years, allowing them to focus on their education without the added burden of inadequate resources.

Additional Support: Exercise Books Distribution

Beyond providing sanitary pads, the foundation also distributed over 10,000 exercise books to students from various public schools in Ife North Local Government. during an event at the Ipetumodu town hall. The benefitting schools included:

  • The Apostolic School
  • C and S Grammar School
  • Origbo Community High School
  • CAC Commercial School
  • Local Authority Secondary School

Impact and Vision

Through the “Pad a Girl Today” initiative, the foundation is not only addressing the immediate needs of menstrual hygiene but also advocating for the health, dignity, and empowerment of young girls in underserved communities. The distribution of exercise books further reinforces the foundation's commitment to education and creating brighter futures.

The Erelu Funmi Ayoola Foundation continues to inspire positive change by uplifting young girls and supporting their journey toward a better tomorrow.
